TTF is calling on the Federal Government to improve policy processes to support Working Holiday Makers (WHM) as a crucial part of Australia’s workforce and visitor economy.
WHMs are more than temporary workers. They are long-stay visitors who work, travel and spend across Australia, supporting tourism businesses, regional communities, and local economies.
In 2025, WHMs spent $1.1 billion in regional Australia, and $3.3 billion in capital cities*, demonstrating their significant economic contribution. They also provide an important pipeline of future visitors, with 88% likely to consider returning to Australia**.
We are highly concerned about the recent slowing and pause on visa processing for certain countries. This creates undue uncertainty for tourism business and regional employees and directly takes money out of the pockets of Australians.
The Federal Government must provide greater visibility around what is driving the changes, and recognise the important role WHMs play in Australia’s economy.
